On September 12, 2025, Erika Kirk broke her silence in a press conference following the tragic killing of her husband, political commentator Charlie Kirk. He was shot dead two days earlier while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah during his American Comeback Tour. Authorities have since identified 22-year-old Tyler Robinson as the suspect.
At the gathering Erika, visibly grief-stricken, offered her deepest gratitude to local, state, and federal law enforcement for their efforts. She also thanked Vice President J.D. Vance and his wife Usha and former President Donald Trump for their support. She spoke of Charlie as a devoted husband, a loving father, a man whose faith was central to everything he stood for.
One of the most heart-wrenching moments came when she shared how she broke the news to their three-year-old daughter who asked where her daddy was. Erika told her gently “Daddy loves you so much. Don’t you worry. He’s on a work trip with Jesus, so he can afford your blueberry budget.”
Erika emphasized that Charlie’s core values of faith, family, and courage should define how people remember him. She said that he often said if he were gone people should remember him for his faith and courage. She also affirmed that Charlie loved his children and loved her with all his heart. “My husband laid down his life for me, for our nation, for our children,” she said.
She revealed that despite their profound grief the tour that Charlie was carrying out will continue. The American Comeback Tour is scheduled this fall and she promised that his mission would not end with his passing. She declared in heartfelt remarks that “the movement my husband built won’t die.”
Erika said she still does not understand all that has happened. “I know God does, but I don’t,” she said, expressing her uncertainty even as she leaned on her faith. She spoke of “evildoers responsible” for what she called her husband’s assassination and vowed those who acted believe not what they have done.
About their children she said Charlie and she had been married since 2021. They had welcomed a daughter in August 2022 and a son in May 2024. Their daughter had just turned three. Charlie’s death came only weeks after celebrating her third birthday. Friends, colleagues, and those close to Charlie recalled how deeply he cherished his role as husband and father.
Thursday and Friday were emotionally overwhelming, Erika admitted. She thanked everyone who had supported Charlie through radio emails, the Turning Point USA community, and all who showed kindness in words or deeds. She asked for prayers, expressed how much every message mattered, and asked that people remember him not for controversy but for his love, his patriotism, his faith.
The suspect, Tyler Robinson, is being held on several charges including aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, and obstruction of justice. Prosecutors may seek the death penalty if he is convicted under the criteria in Utah.
Erika’s words were at once mournful and resolute. She paused often, tearful at times, but strong in the conviction that Charlie’s voice will continue through her, through their children, through the organization he built. She urged people who supported him to continue in that support. She ended by asking that God bless her husband, bless those who stood by him, and the country that he loved.
